Dana (Dharma) Economy

Dharma - Dana or: "give what you can, take what you need."

"The perfection of generosity is said to be the thought to give all beings everything." SHANTIDEVA

Ahimsa-Portugal has no central funding. We operate a radical economy on, what is called, a Dana Economy. The Sanskrit word 'Dana' means generosity, which is a fundamental Buddhist principle. Ahimsa-Portugal offers something that is priceless - Peace, Harmony and Wellbeing. Rather than charge for workshops, live-in expenses, we give them freely, asking only for donations.

Our aim is to inspire a culture of generosity that will pervade the community. Through giving, we learn to transcend ourselves and respond to the needs of others. If you value what we offer, you will hopefully be inspired to help us to offer this gift to others. The suggested donations in our programme reflect the very basic income required to make the events viable. We do not have any independent means of financing the events and we do need those attending to offer financial support to make the events financially viable. If you can offer more, please consider doing so. If the incoming donations for an event are insufficient we will try to still run it, but we may have to ask for more from those attending. So, please look at the suggested contributions and enter into the spirit of this approach by giving what you can.

We are also willing to discuss donations in the form of skill sharing and offers of work to support our project.
