"Learning how to help others honour the pain that we feel for the world awakens us to interconnection and inspires us to action." Joanna Macy

Twice a year we hold a residential programme for those who are interested to learn how to facilitate the "Work That Reconnects" and refresh themselves by immersing back into nature. The Work That Reconnects has been adopted as part of the "Heart and Soul" work by the Transition Town movement.

Is it for you?

This programme is for anyone who has little or no experience of facilitating in the Work That Reconnects and who would like to build their confidence to begin doing this work. We try to group people together so they have the type of experience they want and need:

  • Those who have some prior experience of facilitating groups
  • Have participated in a Work That Reconnects workshop before or have completed the two-day Transition Training
  • Have some expression of the "Great Turning" in their own personal life - e.g. ecological activity, community work, campaigning and activism, social reform, etc.
  • Who want to contribute to a Earth community through facilitating groups to come to awareness

The aim of these residential workshops is to provide an opportunity for individuals to come together who want to take an active role in helping others respond to environmental and social challenges facing our planet today.

The programme is a mix of practical, experiential and personal exercises that invite us to express and respond to our deepest feelings for our environment; to wake up our ecological awareness to facilitate positive change. The workshop allows for the coming together of the collective spirit, experience and learning of the whole group so that each workshop group is different and co-created in the present by those that arrive to work together.

Workshop Objectives

Whilst there is a robust theory foundation upon which the workshop builds they are designed to be more practical to provide participants with the skills and confidence needed to make the next steps in facilitating this work.

Our experience shows that individuals take different lead times to deepen their confidence - to address this dynamic we encourage individuals to shadow or co-lead with us during the four days.

  • Exploration of the challenges experienced by facilitating groups and in respect to the Work That Reconnects and how to address these challenges
  • How to work with strong emotions that emerge within individuals and the group
  • Throughout the four-days, participants will have the opportunity to facilitate this work in a supportive environment and receive constructive feedback from the group
  • Each participant will be given a development plan to support them in developing their facilitation skills and practice
